Voice for Pest X-Ray vs Plaibook: call scoring for pest control offices

Tanner Crookston · CEO and co-founder, Plaibook

Ran inside sales at BRD Pest Solutions across seven offices before starting Plaibook. Still takes customer calls every week.

Voice for Pest is a phone system built for pest and lawn companies. It pops the FieldRoutes or PestPac account when a customer calls, notes the call automatically, and routes by skill. A lot of our customers run it and have no plans to change. X-Ray (their site writes it x-rai) is the AI layer on top of that phone system: it categorizes every call and text, flags leads that never made it into the CRM, and sends alerts and follow-ups.

Plaibook is not a phone system. It pulls the recordings from whatever phone system you have, Voice for Pest included, grades each call against your own script steps, ties the grade to what happened in FieldRoutes, and texts the leads that called but did not book. So the real question is not which one to switch to. It is whether you want the analysis bundled with the phones or separate from them, and how much of the analysis you need.

What each one analyzes and reports

Voice for Pest facts come from voiceforpest.com and its FieldRoutes Marketplace listing. Where the vendor does not publish a detail, the cell says so rather than guessing.

Scope

The difference is what the grade is attached to

X-Ray lives inside the phone system, so it sees everything the phone system sees: every inbound and outbound call, every text, which queue it hit, whether an account got created. That is a useful place to sit. Catching a lead that called twice and never got a FieldRoutes account is worth real money, and X-Ray is built to catch it.

Plaibook starts from the other end. We take your sales script and your service script and turn each one into scorecard steps: did the rep ask what pest, did they ask about the yard, did they offer the recurring plan, did they ask for the sale, did they set the expectation for the first service. Every call is graded on those steps, and the grade is stored next to the FieldRoutes outcome for that account. That is how you get close rate by rep, close rate by lead source, and the step your team skips most often on the calls that do not close. Save rate works the same way on cancellation calls.

Then there are the leads that did not close. Plaibook's text agent follows them up, handles the price objection or the "let me ask my spouse," and books the appointment on the right route in FieldRoutes. A human can approve every message if you want it that way. Voice for Pest describes text re-engagement of unsold leads under its AI voice agents; whether it books the job into the FSM is not published, so we have not claimed it does or does not.

Who should pick which

Two reasonable answers

Both of these are defensible. The wrong move is buying the analysis you do not need, or switching phone systems to get analysis you could have had without switching.

Pick X-Ray if

  • You are on Voice for Pest and happy with the phone system
  • You want one vendor for phones, texting and analysis
  • Call categories, missed-lead alerts and screen pops cover what you need
  • Your reps are already used to the Voice for Pest workflow

One vendor, one bill, one login. If the phone system works for you and the alerts cover what you would act on, this is the simple choice.

Pick Plaibook if

  • You want every call graded against your own script steps, not a general rubric
  • You want close rate by lead source and save rate pulled from FieldRoutes
  • You want a text agent working the leads that called and did not book
  • You want to keep your phone system either way, Voice for Pest included

The analysis stays with you if you ever change phone systems, and the phone system stays with you if you ever drop the analysis.

Running both

How Plaibook works alongside Voice for Pest

Nothing changes for the reps. They keep dialing, texting and noting in Voice for Pest, and they keep booking in FieldRoutes. Plaibook pulls the recordings through the API, transcribes them, grades them, and matches each one to the FieldRoutes account. Managers get scorecards and dashboards in Plaibook and coaching notes in Slack. FieldRoutes stays the source of truth; a transcript never overrides it.

We build phone-system connections at no charge, usually in about a day for a system with an API, and we backfill a month of historical calls so the dashboards are not empty on day one. The integrations page lists what is live today, and the call scoring page walks through a scorecard. For the wider field, see the roundup of call scoring tools for pest control.

FAQ

Voice for Pest and Plaibook together

Yes. Plaibook runs alongside Voice for Pest and pulls the call recordings through the API. Your reps keep dialing, texting and noting in Voice for Pest and FieldRoutes exactly as they do today. Managers see the scorecards and dashboards in Plaibook.
No. Plaibook needs the recordings, not the add-on. Some customers run both, using X-Ray for call categories and alerts inside the phone system and Plaibook for script scoring, attribution and text follow-up. Most pick one.
No. Plaibook is not a phone system and does not route calls, provide numbers or answer with an AI voice. It scores the calls your phone system records and texts the leads that did not close. If you like Voice for Pest, keep it.
