Avoca AI vs Plaibook: which one fits a pest control office?
Tanner Crookston · CEO and co-founder, Plaibook
Ran inside sales at BRD Pest Solutions across seven offices before starting Plaibook. Still takes customer calls every week.

Short answer: if you want a bot to answer your phones, Avoca. If you want your own reps graded against your own script and the leads they did not close texted and booked in FieldRoutes, Plaibook. Avoca is an AI front office for home service companies with a voice agent at the center. Plaibook is call scoring and text follow-up for pest control, with no voice agent, and that is a decision rather than a gap.
Both grade calls. Both work with FieldRoutes and ServiceTitan. The split is what sits around the scorecard, who the product is sized for, and how you pay. Every Avoca fact below is from avoca.ai or the FieldRoutes Marketplace as of September 2026. Where Avoca does not publish something, the table says so.

What Avoca is
Avoca calls itself the AI front office for service businesses. The lead product is an AI CSR that answers every call, text and web chat around the clock and books the job straight into the FSM. Around it sit a self-service scheduler, speed-to-lead for web forms, outbound campaigns over SMS and calls, a Google Local Services Ads hookup, and Coach, which scores every human CSR call from 0 to 100 against a rubric you set. It is a ServiceTitan certified app, it lists Housecall Pro and FieldRoutes as integrations, and it says it is SOC 2 certified. The customer list on avoca.ai skews toward larger HVAC and plumbing brands, and the site has dedicated pages for pest control alongside roofing, garage door, auto repair and junk removal.
That is a lot of product, and for a big shop with an overflow problem it is the right kind of product. I want to be fair to it. The question this page answers is narrower: is it the right product for a pest control office with a sales floor of three to thirty people.
Why Plaibook has no AI voice agent
We get asked this on most demos, so here is the reasoning. Pest control is sold to homeowners who are already a little nervous. They found ants in the kitchen, they Googled, they called. When a bot picks up, a meaningful share of them hang up and call the next company on the list, and you never find out because the hang-up looks like a short call. The ones who stay often give a bot less than they would give a person, which means a thinner quote and a worse route fit.
Texting behaves differently. A text arrives after the call, when the customer has already talked to a human and is deciding. They can answer between meetings. They can ask a question and get a straight answer with the price from FieldRoutes. And a manager can watch every thread live, or switch on co-pilot mode and approve each message before it sends. That keeps a human in the loop without a human typing every text. It is the reason a mid-sized company closed 786 deals over text in the BRD case study without a single bot answering a phone.
So Plaibook records the call your CSR took, grades it against your script steps, and if the customer did not book, texts them to finish the job. If you need after-hours coverage, an answering service or Avoca can sit in front, and Plaibook will still pull the recording and grade it as long as the phone system is one we support. See the integrations page for the list.
Where the two are close, and where they are not
Call scoring
Avoca Coach grades every call 0 to 100 against a rubric you set, in categories like objection handling and process adherence. Plaibook grades every call against your script steps, so the output is a list of which steps the rep hit and which they skipped, with a clip of the moment. Both are custom. The difference is what the manager does next. In Plaibook the scorecard drives the leaderboard, the wallboard on the sales floor, and the AI Coach that messages the rep in Slack. Reps enter nothing manually and never have to log in. Details on the call scoring page.
Follow-up
Avoca runs outbound campaigns over SMS and calls for estimate follow-up and re-engagement. Plaibook texts the specific leads the scorecard flagged as unclosed, handles objections in the thread, books the appointment on the right route in FieldRoutes, sends the contract for e-signature and collects payment. The whole sale can finish in the text thread. More on the AI text follow-up page.
FSM depth
Avoca's deepest integration is ServiceTitan, where it is a certified app. Its FieldRoutes page says the AI CSR books jobs into FieldRoutes and that scoring and attribution tie back to FieldRoutes. Plaibook's deepest integration is FieldRoutes. We read customers, route availability, subscription and payment status, and we write customers, confirmed appointments, subscriptions, contracts and notes. FieldRoutes is the source of truth, so close rate and attribution come from what got booked and paid, not from what the transcript sounded like. We also support PestPac and Briostack, and ServiceTitan is in progress.
Size and price
Avoca does not publish pricing or a trial. Plaibook charges per rep seat, managers and owners are free, low-volume seats are free, there is no setup fee, and billing is month to month. Text follow-up is billed on outcomes we agree on before a campaign starts. The trial is 30 days of the full product with no credit card. That model was built for an office where three people sell and one manager coaches, and it still works at a few hundred seats.
Who should pick which
Pick Avoca if missed and after-hours calls are your biggest leak and you want a voice agent answering them, especially if you run ServiceTitan. Pick Plaibook if your reps answer the phone and the leak is what happens on the call and after it: skipped script steps, unbooked leads nobody followed up with, cancellations nobody tried to save. Some offices will end up with an answering layer in front and Plaibook grading behind it. That works too.
